The Rockville Centre Coalition is working with the RVC Police Department to educate parents and teens on the real legal consequences of using a fake ID for underage alcohol purchase. RVC Police Youth Officer Nick DeLuca worked with parents and attorneys to put together a flyer which explains that using a fake ID for underage alcohol purchases can be charged as a Class D felony, forgery or criminal possession of a forged instrument, which can result in 7 years in jail. Other potential charges are false personation, a Class B misdemeanor, criminal impersonation in the 2nd degree, a Class A misdemeanor, and endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor, all of which carry a potential penalty of up to one year in jail. The dangers are real for our teens, as data shows that over 25% of our 12th graders admit having used a false ID for underage alcohol purchase.
